ChaLean Extreme Ab Burner & Recharge
I had a slower workout tonight. I needed it following the brutal leg routines I did yesterday. I started with ChaLean Extreme’s Ab Burner and followed up with the Recharge routine.
I expected Chalene Johnson, also know as Chalene the Machine at my house, to be a little more challenging in her ab routine. Maybe…just maybe, my abdominal muscles are getting stronger in my quest for flatter abs. I have not tried any of her more advanced ab workouts, yet.
Prior to Beachbody, I tried just about every ab exerciser, machine and piece of equipment I could find in the gym. I have found that the variety of ab exercises in Beachbody workouts simply amazes me and I don’t need to go to the gym or buy any extra home gym stuff.
I think I would probabaly compare Ab Burner to either Ab Ripper 100 or Ab Ripper 200 in Power 90. It is not in the same burn level as the P90X Ab Ripper X. This a beginner level ab routine that lasts just over ten minutes. The next time I do abs, I think I will switch to Extreme Abs or I’ve Got Abs. Maybe I will alternate these two workouts with Extreme Core. I think Chalene has some challenging moves coming up in these workouts. I guess I should be happy that it is time for me to move on to a harder ab program.
Recharge was a short (less than 21 minutes) stretching and yoga combination. How could you not love that? This workout gave a lot of attention to stretching your back and hamstrings. I really enjoyed the stretch. It reminded me somewhat of P90X X Stretch. You know, that day when it just feels so good to work out? (I am not referencing the 92 minute P90X Yoga X. Now, that’s torture! A true love/hate relationship.)
The next time I do a stretching routine with ChaLean Extreme, I may try the Dynamic Flow Yoga. I can see myself staying with this one for a while though. It felt so good to have a nice slow full body stretch. The short duration of the workout also allowed me to fit in abs tonight.
The Recharge workout could be done by any fitness level, including beginner. Chalene does a great job demonstrating how to modify different moves and positions to make the stretch either more challenging or less intensive to fit your current capabilities. I enjoyed the stretch. I think you will, too!
Ten Minute Crusher Pack
Since I knew October’s One on One training session came with a jump rope, I was expecting the 10 Minute Crusher Pack to use a jump rope to do cardio intervals. I didn’t expect the workout inside. Tony Horton is a crazy trainer who will keep you entertained, motivated, and pushing forward.
The 10 Minute Crusher Pack is actually divided in three 10 minute segments. The first segment is called 20-12 Abs and appropriately works your abdominal muscles. Tony put together a series of ab exercises that alternate between hanging from a chin up bar and work on the floor.
The ab routine is a nice variation to through into your P90X Extreme Home Training workout plan if you get tired of Ab Ripper X or just need a change. It is more challenging than Ab Ripper 100 and Ab Ripper 200 which are both ab routines from Power 90. The 20-12 Abs is more comparable with Ab Ripper X but you will be using the chin up bar a lot to isolate and work those tough abdominal muscles.
The second workout session packs ten minutes full of extreme exercises for legs. It is called Legs of Gold. If you know Tony, then you know that regular squats and lunges will never do. He likes to “mix it up” with any and every variation he sees or can dream up.
If you are new to fitness or to Tony Horton, this leg workout will give you a challenge and probably remind you that you worked legs a day or two later. I cannot compare the intensity of Legs of Gold with the P90X Legs and Back exercise routine. The P90X version is butt burner in my book.
The downside of the P90X Legs and Back workout is the length. You don’t always have an hour to exercise or you might want to just work legs or add them to something besides your back routine. That’s where I think Legs of Gold belongs in my fitness routine. I never thought I would ever be happy with a ten minute leg routine. I guess if you know how, you can get an effective workout in ten minutes.
The last exercise segment is Shadow Boxing. This is a cardio segment that uses the familiar jab, cross, hook, uppercut, kick, block…. It’s like graduating from P90X Kenpo X or Chalene Johnson’s Turbo Jam and then, putting it all together in a fun, playful way.
So, what’s the big deal about a jump rope? The jump rope is used as a warm up and for cardio intervals between segments. Jumping rope is an excellent aerobic activity. I never was very good at jumping rope as a kid. Now, I have a reason to practice. I know I don’t have to be perfect. I just have to do my best. All I have to do is keep my body moving. I can even “jump rope” without using a rope.
Burning Fat, Blasting Abs, Turbo Jam’s Ab Jam Workout
My abs were still burning from working out with Tony Horton’s a Core Ball Sandwich the other day, but I decided to put in Chalene Johnson’s 20 minute Ab Jam workout from her Turbo Jam series anyway. Half of this routine does standing ab exercises. The other half is performed on the floor.
What I really like about Beachbody workouts is each trainer has their own style for working out abs. I used to be one of those people who would go to the gym and walk by anything that looked like it might involve abs. I didn’t like working my abdominal muscles because it involved pain.
My neck and lower back always seemed to hurt when I did ab exercises. I didn’t know I needed a trainer to keep me motivated, correct my form, and give me options for getting my mid-section in shape.
The standing portion of Ab Jam feels a lot like the other Turbo Jam workouts. It’s a little bit punching and kicking combined with music and Chalene’s style of fun. It’s true that you forget you’re working out when you’ve got a Turbo Jam DVD playing.
Here’s a hint for Ab Jam…warm up with the 20 Minute Cardio session. You’ll get your cardio, have a great warm up and keep the fat burning while working your abs with Ab Jam.
I will say that when we moved to the floor session, I knew for sure we were focusing on abs! Some of the moves Chalene uses are killer on the obliques and not once did I feel pain in my neck or lower back.
She reminds you to lead with your shoulder (not your elbow) when you’re doing crunches to keep the pressure off your neck. When doing standing crunches, she’ll tell you to lift your “hip” not your knee when doing side crunches.
Form is everything folks! I can appreciate a trainer who knows the common mistakes we all make and gently educates us on how to make each move more effective while reducing the risk of injury.
I like to combine the 20 minute Turbo Jam cardio with the Ab Jam workout which is also 20 minutes in length. I think I need to give my abs some recovery time now. I feel like I just did Ab Ripper X or Yoga Belly from P90X. I think I need to go to the kitchen and refuel now. Mommy!
Stability Ball Plank Crunch & Side Arm Crunch
I pushed play on Core Ball Sandwich (CBS) tonight. It’s a Tony Horton One on One workout that I wrote about recently. Tonight, my body felt two exercises in particular, so I thought I’d write about them.
This workout routine is only about 35 minutes long after the warm up. It consists of two rounds of ten exercises that focus on strengthening the core muscles. It’s a killer ab session that will leave your abdominal muscles screaming!
The exercises that really hit me tonight were the Stability Ball Plank Crunch and the Side Arm Crunch. The side arm crunch is performed from a side plank position. You pull your elbow and knee toward each other in a side crunch while maintaining a side plank. That took a lot of focus, stability, and determination for me tonight.
The Stability Ball Plank Crunch obviously involves a stability ball. You begin in a plank position with your feet on top of the ball. Then, you move your knees into your chest while rolling the ball forward. Tony puts the balls of his feet on the ball, but I had to modify this one.
My ball is larger than it should be for this exercise. Therefore, I put the top of my feet on the ball rather than using the balls of my feet. That helped ensure I didn’t take a header. It’s ok to modify any exercise as long as you’re still working the intended muscle groups without the danger of injury or over compensation from another muscle group.
Tony’s new One on One 10-Minute Crusher Pack should arrive in about a week. It sounds like it’s going to be some old school cardio. Beachbody is sending a free speed jump rope with the DVD. You can get this DVD, Core Ball Sandwich or any other DVD on this series either separately or as a monthly subscription.
These programs were designed to keep P90X Extreme Home Fitness graduates challenged. They’re not designed for beginners. I would highly recommend trying out one of them if you want to get feel for how this trainer motivates and pushes all of his students.
They say that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. Are you ready? (Don’t forget that as a Club Member you’ll save 10% off the retail price and as a Team Beachbody Coach, you’ll enjoy a savings of 25% even on the more expensive P90X program.)
Core Ball Sandwich Flatter Abs!
I finished Tony Horton’s One on One Core Ball Sandwich feeling like I’d accomplished a great challenge yet missed the mark on athletic ability. My core muscles received a muscle twitching trembling workout, but I had to practice Tony’s mantra to “do your best and forget the rest.”
I struggled primarily with the pull ups. I’ve worked my way up to one chin up, and I’m quite proud of that. I don’t plan on ever being able to keep up with Tony on the pull ups. He’s a machine when it comes to pulling himself above that bar!
Core Ball Sandwich is a series of ten exercises that are done in two rounds. In keeping with this trainer’s style, three exercises are done in super set style and then, the next set of three, followed by another set of three. Ok, so that adds up to nine…he throws in an extra ball exercise.
A set of pull ups starts each super set of three exercises. The pull ups are not standard pull ups like you’d see in a beginner’s course. Remember, One on One workouts were designed for P90X graduates who wanted to continue using extreme fitness training routines. These pull ups are for extreme workouts. If you’re like me and can’t do them, you just do what you can.
After a set of pull ups, you’ll move on to a set of balance ball exercises. These are challenging because you have to use tiny little muscle to stabilize your body. For example, one of the balance ball exercises requires you to do push ups with your hands on the ball and your feet on a bench. I modified here by placing my feet on the floor. Modifying exercises allows you to build up strength and endurance over time while preventing injuries from overexertion or improper form.
The final set of exercises is performed with a basketball. I didn’t have a basketball, so I used a four pound medicine ball. I really liked using a smaller ball in this workout. I thought the added weight worked well to intensify the V-up crunches. It was also easier for my hand to palm during the push up exercises than a basketball would have been for me.
Core Ball Sandwich is an extreme fitness workout that brings both challenge and variety to any Beachbody program. It takes advantage of interval training to get your heart rate up which means your metabolism is charged. When your metabolism is burning so is fat! This workout brought plenty of sweat and as I write this, my abs are still on fire.
Shakeology The Workouts – The 30
It’s been at least an hour since I completed my workout tonight and my abs are still burning! What did I do? Shakeology The Workouts – The 30. Quite a name isn’t it? The 30 is quite simply the thirty minute workout vice the fifty minute workout designed to compliment Beachbody’s Shakeology. My abs aren’t burning because of the workout focusing on abs. They’re burning because I was introduced to a new ab exercise. It seems like every Beachbody workout has a slight twist when it comes to working out the abdominal muscles. Each trainer seems to have their own unique signature ab moves.
The workout was only thirty minutes long but took advantage of interval training to keep the heart rate up. Keeping the heart rate up means you’ll burn fat and rev your metabolism. The workout involved three rounds of exercises that combined both cardio moves and strength training exercises. All that’s needed for the strength training is one light set of dumbbells or a resistance band.
What did I like most about it? This workout will make an excellent fitness dvd to take on vacation. It’s designed to work your whole body from head to toe, including toning and cardio. It can be done in a small area such as a hotel room. I can use a resistance band that easily packs and the packaging for the dvds will pack nicely in a suit case.
I will probably also use the workout as a fill in workout to mix in a little variety when I need it. For example, when I do round two of P90X in September or October, I may use the Shakeology workouts to substitute for a Cardio X workout. I’d rate the intensisty as medium. You can certainly modify moves (demonstrated by one of the participants) to reduce the intensity if you’re new to exercising or need to modify for health reasons.
By the way, the trainer’s name is Tania Ante. You can also find her on Beachbody’s Hip Hop Abs, Insanity and Rockin’ Body fitness workout dvds. Tania does an excellent job of demonstrating proper form before each exercise.
If you’re not familiar with Shakeology, it’s a meal replacement shake that Beachbody likes to call it “the healthiest meal of the day.” It’s not just a protein shake or a regular meal replacement shake. It contains 70 healthy ingredients and even comes with a 30 day money back guarantee. Take some time to learn about the awesome health benefits of Shakeology. It’s really impressive, and I just can’t do it justice trying to write about it here.
I was impressed enough to make this my breakfast on work days. It’s nutritious and filling. I also liked the fact that in a 90 day study where test participants replaced one shake per day with Shakeology, ate a balanced diet and moderately worked out three times per week reduced their cholesterol an average of 30% and their bad cholesterol by an average of 38%. In a day and age where doctors prescribe medication before educating individuals on nutrition and exercise, I was excited to learn that Shakeology might help in the fight to control cholesterol levels.
You can order the Shakeology workouts alone or get them free when you sign up for an automatic monthly delivery of either Greenberry or Chocolate Shakeology. When you sign up for automatic monthly delivery, you’ll also get your shipping for the Shakeology free every month. It’s kind of a nice program because you get the free workouts, free shipping, and you won’t run out of your meal replacement shake.
Oh, a few stats on the shake…everyone wants to know about calories, fat, carbs, and protein so here’s the stats on the Chocolate Shakeology. 140 Calories. Only 1 gram of fat. 17 grams of carbohydrates. 17 grams of protein. When you read more about Shakeology, you’ll be able to open up the nutrition label on both the Greenberry and Chocolate if you want to review it before adding it to your fitness plan.
If you have a Beachbody program, keep pressing play. If you’re new to Beachbody, nutrition, working out, getting in shape, improving your fitness, or losing weight we’re here to help you meet your fitness goals.
Power 90 Ab Ripper 200
Ouch! Power 90’s Ab Ripper 200 is 200 ab ouchy reps! It uses the same ten abdominal exercises as Ab Ripper 100, but instead of ten reps for each exercise, you’re doing twenty. That makes a significant difference in the burn. It will take a while for me to master the Ab Ripper 200.
If I compare Ab Ripper 200 to the ab workouts in P90X, I’d have to say it feels more like the Yoga Belly 7 rather than the infamous Ab Ripper X. Ab Ripper X is still on top of the charts for the toughest ab routine I’ve ever done. I’m not sure how the new Rev Abs program will compare. I did the first Rev Abs workout when Beachbody sent it to me as a preview dvd.
I didn’t find that workout as extreme as Ab Ripper X, but I have to keep in mind that I was only doing the first routine of a 90 day program based on increasing your metabolism, buring fat, and focusing exercise movements on the core and abdominal muscles. I have a feeling that when Rev Abs is released that it will be a somewhat challenging ab program. (Get ready, it’s coming out this fall.)
Power 90 Ab Ripper 100
Ab Ripper 100 is one of the ab routines in Tony Horton’s Power 90 Fat Burning System. I had heard of Ab Ripper 100 from P90X. In Ab Ripper X from P90X, Tony says that this isn’t Ab Ripper 100 or Ab Ripper 200, this is Ab Ripper 336. After finally doing Ab Ripper 100, that statement made more sense.
Ab Ripper X is 16 minutes of hard ab work. Each exercise has 25 reps except for the massive amount of Mason Twists done at the end. Oh, and let’s not forget the “yoga belly seven” ab work on the Yoga X video. That’s P90X. Let’s get back to Power 90 and Ab Ripper 100.
Ab Ripper 100 consists of 10 ab exercises. Each exercise has 10 reps for a total of “100″ reps. Most of the exercises were not excruciating because we only had 10 reps to get through. The hardest one for me was the full body crunch done right at the end. There’s always at least one ab exercise that’s difficult for me!
Can’t wait to try out Ab Ripper 200! Do I dare press play on Tony Horton’s One on One Core Ball Sandwhich? Oh, I will. How about you? Bring it, Tony!
Turbo Jam: Ab Jam
When I first looked at this dvd, I thought twenty minutes was an incredibly long time to be working on my abs. I’ve got to tell you that the time just flew by. I’m not sure what it is about Turbo Jam or Chalene Johnson, but each workout is fun. Fun means you’ll keep doing it. Fun means you get through the workout before you realize you’re exercising…just kidding.
Keeping with the trademark of Beachbody workouts, Ab Jam uses cardio interval training to keep your heart pumping. You’re going to sweat, burn calories, melt fat, and pump up your metabolism.
The first half of the workout is standing. If you’re used to working your abs with crunches, a ball, or ab machines, you’ll be surprised at how many different ways you can work your abdominal muscles standing up.
You may not be comfortable doing standing ab exercises. Give it a chance and work through it. It’s probably just new to you. Some of the standing ab exercises are similar to those in Debbie Sieber’s Slim in 6. I also noticed some similarities with Tony Horton’s P90X Extreme Home Fitness System.
The second half of the workout moves to ab exercises on the floor. I learned some new moves. I was expecting something in between Slim in 6 and P90X’s Ab Ripper X or Yoga Belly 7. My favorite floor exercise in Ab Jam involves sitting on the floor with your hands on the floor behind you. Your knees are bent…feet off the floor. You then lean back and touch your knees to the left until they hit the floor. Then, your bring them to the right until they hit the floor, etc. This works the lower abs really good!
I’ve got a few more ab routines to review for you, so you’ll have plenty of information on how to get yourself a tight, flat set of abs. Still coming up: Turbo Jam Booty Sculpt & Abs, Tony Horton’s One on One Core Ball Sandwhich, and Brett Hoebel’s new 90 day ab solution Rev Abs.
Rev Abs isn’t available, yet. This Beachbody workout won’t be released until the fall; however, I have a preview dvd. It’s the first dvd in program. Getting free preview dvds of upcoming releases is one of the benefits of being a Beachbody Coach. Speaking of previews, I have an extra Tony Horton One on One Cardio Intervals dvd.

Turbo Jam: Punch, Kick & Jam
Chalene’s style of keeping it fun and keeping your eyes off the clock held true in her 48 minute Punch, Kick & Jam workout in the Turbo Jam program. As the name suggests, this workout packs a lot of punches – jab, cross, hook, uppercut – kicks from all sides and lots of jamming to upbeat music.
I added the Beachbody weighted gloves with this workout to increase the intensity a little. It was enough (.75 pounds for each glove) to increase the intensity but still allow me to work aerobically without going to the point of exhaustion. You can certainly get a good workout without the weighted gloves though.
Now that the workout is over, I can really tell that I worked my abs. I can especially feel my upper abs and obliques. I was dripping with sweat at the end of the workout but felt energized and stretched out at the same time.
The hardest part of this workout for me was the cooling down period when we did a lot of capoeira. I think this will get easier for me as I learn the moves in this section better. What’s nice about the capoeira section is that your body is stretching after a lot of punching and kicking. P90X didn’t have any capoeira moves, so this is totally new to me.
I’m thinking about jumping back over to P90X Yoga X for a day just to see how that workout feels after doing all these Turbo Jam jabs and kicks. I’m guessing that it’s going to be a lot easier than when I was going through 90 days of P90X. I still have a few Turbo Jam workouts to enjoy before I do that. And, I’m expecting my new Tony Horton One on One workout to arrive this week. It’s so fun having variety in my exercising routine.
I always like to tell you when I see something new in a program that I like. Toward the end of the workout, Chalene had us to pull out a resistance band. I totally wasn’t expecting that. It reminded me of the toning portion of Slim in 6. I thought I’d see similar moves, but we only did three moves and they were all different from the one we did in Slim in 6. By the way, if you need resistance bands, you can get them from the Beachbody store or shop for gym stuff where I often do because of the quality, prices, and free shipping. (Update – This website is currently unavailable, so I removed the link. I should have it repaired soon.)
First, we used the band in conjunction with uppercut punches. Then, we used it to put resistance on on jabs in a side-lunge position. That was cook because I could really feel it working the anterior (front) shoulder muscle with each jab. The last thing we did with the band was a series of side kicks to work the outer thighs and glutes.
I don’t think I’ve ever used resistance bands to work my legs. I liked the way we formed a loop with one handle of the band to make a stirrup for the foot. I’ve worked out plenty using cables and ankle attachments. I’ve even used a fancy foot attachment with my Bowflex Revolution, but this simple technique was just as effective, more comfortable, and less expensive.
I’ve got two more workouts to move through in the Turbo Jam program before I repeat any of them. I still haven’t experienced Ab Jam or Booty Sculpt & Abs. You’ll see me going back to Yoga Booty Ballet on occassion as well. I’m mixing up a few programs right now to take a break from following just one trainer. When I reach my current weight goal, I think I’ll go back to P90X for 90 days or workout with Tony Horton for 90 days with Power 90.
What’s the difference in the programs I’m doing now vs. P90X and Power 90? I’m focusing primarily on cardio and toning right now. P90X and Power 90 put more emphasis on strength training. As I’ve said in previous articles, it’s important to define your current fitness goals and then, support your goals with appropriate fitness routines. What are your current fitness goals?

Turbo Jam: Cardio Party
Where did that 45 minutes go? Once again, Chalene kept my mind off working out and just having fun. I’m sitting here dripping in sweat after completing my first Cardio Party workout in the Turbo Jam program. I’m not a dancer, so trying to move like some of the gals wasn’t pretty. The important thing is to keep moving. Afterall, you are in your living room not under a spinning ball on the dance floor!
I noticed that in this routine, the Wheel reminded me of the low side crunches in Slim in 6. The difference here is the Wheel is a much wider and flowing exercise. It stretches the whole body while working the oblique abdominal muscles.
The kicking and punching in Cardio Party remind me of Tony Horton’s P90X Kenpo X workout. I was already familiar with the basic moves from P90X, so I was really comfortable with them. If you haven’t done kicks or punches, you’ll probably have a similar experience as I did when I first did the Kenpo X DVD. I was elated. Somehow, it was empowering and didn’t feel at all like exercising. Kicking, punching, and blocking help me focus my mind and relieve stress.
I think this workout is absolutely an ab ripping routine. Well, I’m beginning to think that all the Turbo Jam routines work the abs. Hmmm. Maybe that’s why Chalene has hard abs. Come to the party. Are you ready to lose weight, boost your metabolism, burn fat, increase your energy…and have fun doing it?
Turbo Jam 20 Minute Workout
I did my first Turbo Jam workout tonight. Trainer Chalene Johnson combines kickboxing and dance moves to upbeat or shall I say jamming music.
Tonight, I went through the Learn & Burn segment to learn Chalene’s “Elite 11″ moves which form the foundation of all the Turbo Jam routines.
| 1. Turbo Kick 2. Pump 3. Zig Zag 4. Strike |
5. Twist 6. Row 7. “W” 8. 7 Step |
9. Shake and Shed 10. Capoeira Step 11. Wheel |
After going through the Learn & Burn, I moved on to the 20 Minute Workout. The 20 Minute Workout was enough to ease me into a new routine yet let me break a little sweat. This is a perfect workout for beginners. It’s also a good choice for a quick cardio workout when you’re short on time. It has some full body stretching type moves such as the Row, Wheel, and Capoeira Step. The combination of cardio, stretching, abs, and a shorter routine also makes it a great morning workout in my book… (Read more.)
Yoga Booty Ballet – Hip Hop Abs
I pushed play for the first time today on a funky Beachbody workout with Teigh McDonough and Gillian Marloth. The name of the program is Yoga Booty Ballet Live – Hip Hop Abs, and it’s from their Yoga Booty Ballet series. I wasn’t sure what if I’d like it or not. Like other workout programs, I watched the video before trying to participate in the routine. It looked like they were dancing and having fun. The fun part I get, but let me tell you….I can’t dance!
Teigh and Gillian team up to deliver easy to learn dance moves that keep your body moving. You can let loose and have fun because you’re in the privacy of your own home. It’s not all about learning Hip Hop dance moves though. The workout starts and ends with some yoga moves. Don’t get scared about the word “ballet” in the title. Other Yoga Booty Ballet (YBB) workouts incorporate some ballet stretching, but this routine does not… (Read more.)
Burn It Up Exercise List
Phase III of Debbie Sieber’s slim training workout, Burn It Up, is about 59 minutes in length. After you’ve done this routine several times, you can anticipate what exercise is coming up. I think this program is lacking in one area. It doesn’t have a list of the exercises in writing, so you can follow along, and it doesn’t put the names of the upcoming exercise on the screen.
I guess I was kind of spoiled with the P90X Extreme Training Fitness Guide. Each workout had it’s own section where each exercise was not only listed but a brief description was included. When you had a DVD playing, the bottom of the screen would tell you what exercise to expect next. As you learned the names of the exercises, it was easier to develop a comfortable routine as a member of the class.
I was thinking about this because I did Tony Horton’s July One on One: Cardio Intervals DVD last week. I didn’t have a list of exercises, but Tony had one taped to the mirror in his gym. That kept him on track. He would announce the exercise that we were doing next, but I didn’t have a list anywhere and the screen didn’t provide that information either…read more
Ramping It Up: Slim in 6 vs. P90X
I attacked Debbie Siebers Slim in 6 Ramp It Up workout yesterday for the first time. It was longer than the first workout, Start It Up and built upon the basic moves demonstrated in the first workout.
I was amazed at the muscle soreness I was feeling during the workout in my triceps, glutes, and abs. These are three areas most women want to tone up, myself included. Debbie Siebers does a good job going right to the trouble areas, but she hits all the muscle groups systematically with the goal of getting slim in 6 weeks.
Hitting all the muscle groups everyday is a major change for me. Tony Horton’s P90X Extreme Training System is based on classic weight training principles…lift the maximum amount of weight that you can for 8-10 reps to gain muscle size or a weight you can lift for 10-12 reps if you’re wanting to tone without increased muscle size. Whether you choose to work in the shorter or longer rep range, you’re trying to use a heavy enough weight to challenge you during the last couple of reps. P90X works through two to three muscle groups during a typical workout and allows for rest days before working that muscle group again…read more
